Amari Valley

TheAmari Valleyis a fertile valley[1]on thefoothillsofMount IdaandMount KedrosinCrete.The valley was known as a center of resistance to the Germans during theBattle of Creteand the German occupation. After the abduction of GeneralHeinrich Kreipe,the German armydestroyed a number of villagesin the area, killing more than 160 of their inhabitants.

Prehistory

The ancient city ofPhaistosexpanded with satellite development into the Amari Valley in the lateBronze Age,establishing a settlement atMonastiraki.[2]
