Anacleto Rapping(November 26, 1954 – September 17, 2017) was an Americanphotographerand pedagogue.

Anacleto Rapping studied journalism atSan Jose State University(class of 1978).

Career

As a staff photographer at theLos Angeles Timesfor over two decades, Rapping coveredpresidential campaigns,Olympic Games,World Cup Soccertournaments and theAcademy Awards.He has also served as an instructor atBrooks Institute of Photography,where he stressed the importance of foreign travel.[1]Rapping also helped launch three new feature sections at theLos Angeles Times—Sunday Calendar, Home, and Outdoors.

Rapping previously worked for theHartford Courantin Connecticut and theThousand Oaks News Chroniclein California. He has taken assignments inSouth Africa,Australia,Papua New Guinea,Indonesia,Singapore,Guatemala,Mexico,Canadaand throughout the United States. He has photographed foursummer Olympic Games,onewinter Olympicsand threeWorld Cup Soccertournaments.[2]

Rapping is also known for his portrait photography. Over the decades, subjects have includedDon Cheadle,Keith Richards,David Woodard,Bjork,Dennis Hopper,Bill Clinton,Pat Boone,Arnold SchwarzeneggerandBen Affleck.[3]

Awards

Rapping has the distinct honor of sharing threePulitzer Prizesfor team coverage in news. Individually he received a Pulitzer nomination for his photography at the1996 Summer OlympicsinAtlanta.[4]In 1986 he was awarded 2nd prize in theWorld Press Photocontest,[5]and in 1996 he received threePOYIawards.[6]

Death

On September 17, 2017, at the age of 62, Rapping died after a 3-year battle with cancer.[7]
