Anand Kumar Bachhawat(born 1 October 1958) is an Indiangeneticist,biochemist,professorin biological sciences and the dean of faculty at theIndian Institute of Science Education and Research, Mohali.[1]Known for his studies on microbial genetics,[2]Bachhawat is an elected fellow of all the three major Indian science academies namelyIndian Academy of Sciences,[3]National Academy of Sciences, India[4]andIndian National Science Academy.[5]

Bachhawat, an alumnus of theIndian Institute of Technology, Kanpurfrom where he secured a PhD,[6]heads the Bachawat Lab at the Department of Biological Sciences of IISER Mohali.[7]His studies have been documented by way of a number of articles[8]and the online repository of scientific articles of the Indian Academy of Sciences has listed 29 of them.[9]He also holds patents for the biochemical processes he has developed.[10]TheDepartment of Biotechnologyof the Government of India awarded him theNational Bioscience Award for Career Development,one of the highest Indian science awards, for his contributions to biosciences in 2000.[11]
