Anchitherium(meaningnear beast) was afossilhorsewith a three-toedhoof.
Anchitheriumwas abrowsing(leafeating) horse that originated in the earlyMioceneofNorth Americaand subsequently dispersed toEuropeandAsia,[3][4]where it gave rise to the larger bodied genusSinohippus.[1]It was around 60centimetres(6.0hands) high at the shoulder, and probably represented a side-branch of horse evolution that left no modern descendants.[5]
