TheAnderson Independent-Mail,marketed asIndependent Mailand sometimes referred to asAnderson Independent Mail,[2]is a newspaper forAnderson Countyin the state ofSouth Carolina.It is owned by Gannett Satellite Information Network, LLC. It is the closest daily newspaper toClemson University,the newspaper's sports department heavily covers the sports of theClemson Tigers.
History
[edit]G. Pierce Browne founded the precursor afternoon newspaper theAnderson Daily Mailin 1899.Wilton E. Hall,publisher of theMorning Anderson Independent,bought theAnderson Daily Mailand published both newspapers for more than four decades. The two papers were purchased byHarte-Hanks Communicationsin 1972 and combined as theAnderson Independent-Mail.In 1997, TheE. W. Scripps Companybought the newspaper.[2]
Scripps spun out its newspaper assets intoJournal Media Groupin April 2015.[3]In 2016,Gannettacquired all 15 daily JMG newspapers, including theIndependent Mail.[2]
