Annette Meeks(born April 12, 1960) is aMinnesotaRepublicanpolitician and a member of the state'sMetropolitan Council.She was the 2010 endorsed Republican candidate forlieutenant governor,running with gubernatorial candidateTom Emmer.
Biography
[edit]Meeks pursued a degree at theUniversity of MinnesotainMinneapolis,and also graduated from the American Campaign Academy inWashington, D.C.[1]She served as deputy chief of staff forHouse SpeakerNewt Gingrichduring his time in office. She later served as chief executive officer of theCenter of the American Experiment,aconservativethink tank,and as the vice chair of theRepublican Party of Minnesota.She is the founder and CEO of theFreedom Foundation of Minnesota.[2]
Meeks was appointed to Minnesota'sMetropolitan Councilin 2003 by GovernorTim Pawlenty.She was reappointed to a second four-year term in 2007. She served as vice chair of the Council's Community Development and Transportation Committees.[2]She is no longer a member of the Met Council.
On April 28, 2010, state representative and gubernatorial candidateTom Emmernamed Meeks as hisrunning mate.It was noted that she had previously argued that the position oflieutenant governorshould be abolished.[3]
