Anthony Clarkis an American actor and comedian who starred in theCBSsitcomYes, Dear,in which he played the character Greg Warner.[1]
Early life
[edit]Clark was born inLynchburg, Virginia.[2]His father was a factory worker and his mother owned a general store.[3]His parents divorced when he was five. When he was 12, the family moved to a tobacco farm 50 miles south toGladys, Virginia,where his stepfather lived.[2]Clark was named College Entertainer of the Year while studying atEmerson College.[4]Clark graduated from Emerson in 1986 with a degree in mass communications.[3]After college, Clark broke into stand-up comedy, performing gigs at Los Angeles comedy clubs.[2]
Career
[edit]Clark began his career as a stand-up comedian. Clark was a feature on a 1995HBOyoung comedians special hosted byGarry Shandlingalong withDave Chappelle,Dave AttellandLouis C.K.[5]
Before landing a regular starring television role, Clark appeared in several small film roles[2]such as a supporting role as "Billy" inPeter Bogdanovich'sThe Thing Called LovestarringRiver Phoenix,Samantha Mathis,andDermot Mulroney;and as Paul, the flamboyant hotel barber in 1996'sThe Rock.[6][7]In 1995 and 1996, he also had a recurring role on the sitcomEllen.[8]
His first starring role was in the short-lived television comedy seriesBoston Common.[2]He then appeared in another short-lived series as a main cast member inSoul Man.[9]
In 2000, Clark landed the role of Greg Warner in the television comedyYes, Dear.For this role, he was nominated for aYoung Artist Award(along with co-starJean Louisa Kellyas theMost Popular Mom & Dad in a Television Series) and aPrism Award.Along withMike O'Malley,hisYes, Dearco-star, he appears inAlan Jackson's 2005 music video for "The Talkin' Song Repair Blues".[10]In March 2006,CBScancelledYes, Dearafter 6 seasons, when Clark was hired to hostNBC'sLast Comic Standing.[11]
In 2011, oppositeMissi PyleandJohn Michael Higgins,Clark starred as Jack Schumacher in the comedyMy Uncle Rafael.[12]
