Argalus was the eldest son and heir of KingAmyklasofSparta,[1]possibly by his wife,Diomede,daughter ofLapithes.[2]Through this parentage, he was considered to be the brother ofKing Cynortes(his successor),[3]Hyacinthus,[4]Polyboea,[5]Laodamia[6](orLeanira[7]),Harpalus,[8]Hegesandre,[9]and in other versions, ofDaphne.[10]Argalus was also said to be the father of KingOebalus.[11]In 1320 BC, he foundedAcriae.[12]
