Assaf Bednarsh(Hebrew:אסף בדנרש; born December 29,1971) is an American–IsraeliModern OrthodoxrabbiandRosh yeshivaof theYeshiva UniversityaffiliatedRabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary.[1]He isSgan Rosh Kollelfor the Gruss Kollel inJerusalem,and he is the first Ruth Buchbinder Mitzner Chair inTalmudandJewish law.[2]He also teaches atYeshivat Har EtzioninAlon Shevut.[3]

Biography

Bednarsh was born inKfar Etzion,Israel in 1971, and moved to the United States with his parents 8 months later. He graduated from theMarsha Stern Talmudical Academy,theYeshiva UniversityHigh School for Boys, in 1989.[4]He went on to learn atYeshivat Har Etzion,then headed byAharon LichtensteinandYehuda Amital.[5]He holds aB.A.fromPrinceton University,from which he graduated in 1992, and anM.A.inJewish historyfromYeshiva University.[6][7]Bednarsh received hisSemichahfrom theRabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminaryin 1997.[4]

Bednarsh served as aMaggid Shiurand assistant director of Yeshiva University's Graduate Program for Women in Advanced Talmudic Studies, and as a Rebbe atTMSTA– Yeshiva University High School.[3]

In 2004, Bednarsh moved to Israel with his family onAliyahfrom New York City, leaving his positions atYeshiva Universityto take on new positions in Israel.[8]

On April 14, 2007 he was invested as the first Ruth Buchbinder Mitzner Chair ofTalmudandJewish Lawof the Gruss Kollel in Jerusalem.[2]Bednarsh also serves asRosh yeshivafor YU and teaches atYeshivat Har Etzion.[1][3]

Personal

Bednarsh is married to Leora Bednarsh, a graduate ofDrisha’s Scholars’ Circle,Yoetzet Halacha.[8]

The Bednarsh family resides inAlon Shevut,whereYeshivat Har Etzionis located.[1]They have seven children.[8]
