Bilateral relationsexist between theRepublic of Austriaand theRepublic of North Macedonia.[1]Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on 23 December 1994.[2]Austria maintains an embassy inSkopje,while North Macedonia maintains an embassy inVienna.[3] Austria is anEU memberand North Macedonia is anEU candidate.

Austria, being a member state of theEuropean Union,supports North Macedonia's efforts to join the organization.[1]It also supported North Macedonia during the country's visa liberalization process and theEuropean Commission'spositive decision in 2009 concerning the start of accession negotiations between the EU and North Macedonia.[1]

European Union[edit]

Austria joined theEUin1995.North Macedonia is acandidate countryfor theEU.

NATO[edit]

While North Macedonia became a member ofNATOin2020,Austria has never been a member of NATO.
