Azmatullah Omarzai(Pashtoعظمت الله عمرزی born 24 March 2000) is an AfghancricketerfromNurgal DistrictofKunarprovince in easternAfghanistan.Azmatullah started playing cricket when he was 14 years old.

He made his international debut for theAfghanistan cricket teamin January 2021.[1]He was part of the Afghan team in the2023 Cricket World Cup.

He used to play football in his childhood but then decided to play cricket. He is graduated from High School in Afghanistan.[citation needed]

He made hisList Adebut forMis Ainak Regionin the2017 Ghazi Amanullah Khan Regional One Day Tournamenton 10 August 2017.[2]He made hisfirst-classdebut forSpeen Ghar Regionin the2018 Ahmad Shah Abdali 4-day Tournamenton 25 March 2018.[3]

In September 2018, he was named in Paktia's squad in thefirst editionof theAfghanistan Premier Leaguetournament.[4]He made hisTwenty20debut forPaktia Panthersin the 2018–19 Afghanistan Premier League on 7 October 2018.[5]In September 2020, he was the joint winner of the player of the tournament award in the2020 Shpageeza Cricket League.[6]

International career

In December 2017, he was named in Afghanistan's squad for the2018 Under-19 Cricket World Cup.[7]He was part of Afghanistan's under-23 team in the2018 ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup.[8]In November 2019, he was named in Afghanistan's squad for the2019 ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cupin Bangladesh.[9]In February 2020, he was named in Afghanistan'sTwenty20 International(T20I) squad for their seriesagainst Ireland.[10]In January 2021, he was named in Afghanistan'sOne Day International(ODI) squad for their seriesagainst Ireland.[11]He made his ODI debut for Afghanistan, againstIreland,on 21 January 2021.[12]

In March 2021, theAfghanistan Cricket Boardconfirmed that he was pending selection for the T20I matchesagainst Zimbabwe,[13]once his visa issues had been resolved.[14]In February 2022, he was named in Afghanistan's T20I squad for their seriesagainst Bangladesh.[15]He made his T20I debut on 3 March 2022, for Afghanistan againstBangladesh.[16]

In May 2024, he was named in Afghanistan’s squad for the2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cuptournament.[17]
