Backfordis a village andcivil parishin the unitary authority ofCheshire West and Chesterand ceremonial county ofCheshire,England. It is situated betweenChesterandEllesmere Porton theA41trunk road, to the north of theShropshire Union Canal. Backford Crossis located about 2.5 km (1.6 mi) to the north, the village ofMollingtonis approximately 2.5 km (1.6 mi) to the west and the hamlet ofCroughtonis about 3 km (1.9 mi) to the east.

According to the2011 censusthe parish had a population of 117.[1] Formerly atownshipin theWirral Hundred,its population was 138 in 1801, 155 in 1851, 141 in 1901, 119 in 1951 and 109 at the2001 census.[2][3] The neighbouring civil parish ofChorlton-by-Backfordwas added to Backford in 2015.[4]

St Oswald's Churchis in the centre of the village, as isBackford Hall,which is a Grade IIlisted building.[5] Until its sale for residential redevelopment in 2012, Backford Hall had operated as offices for Cheshire West and Chester Council. Its grounds were used as a golf course by the now defunct Backford Hall Golf Club from the late 1930s until 1950.[6]
