Discovery
[edit]Baeotheratesis known from theholotypeOMNH55758, a dentary bone from the rightmandible.It was collected within the Dolese Brothers Limestone Quarry ofRichard's SpurinComanche County, Oklahomaand found in theGarber Formationof the Sumner Group, which dates to the middleSakmarianstage of theEarly Permian,about 289 ± 0.68million years ago.[1][2]
Etymology
[edit]Baeotherateswas first named by W. J. May and Richard L. Cifelli in1998and thetype speciesisBaeotherates fortsillensis.Thegeneric namemeans "small hunter". Thespecific namenamed after the military baseFort Sillnear the type locality.[1]
