Prof.Baruch Modan(1932–2001)[1]was anIsraelimedical scientist.Prof. Modan made significant findings in the field ofoncologyand was an expert on the effects ofradiation.

Prof. Modan worked with various types ofcancer,and in 1974 demonstrated that the chances of gettingbreast cancerincrease for anyone who has hadX-raydosages as low as 1.6 rem. He was an expert on treating cancer among children.

A professor at theUniversity of Tel Aviv,Prof. Modan was Chairman of the Department of Epidemiology and Head of the Stanley Steyer Institute for Cancer Epidemiology and Research at theSackler Faculty of Medicine.He was also Director-General of theIsraeli Ministry of Health.

He was the father ofRutu Modan.
