TheBasham Brotherswere aprofessional wrestlingtag team,composed ofDoug BashamandDanny Basham.The team is best known for their work with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) andTotal Nonstop Action Wrestling(TNA).

History[edit]

Ohio Valley Wrestling (2002–2003)[edit]

The Basham Brothers initially began working as a team inOhio Valley Wrestling(OVW), where they were known as Doug Basham and Damaja respectively. On February 6, 2002, they defeated Nick Dinsmore and Rob Conway in anIron Man matchto win theOVW Southern Tag Team Championship.[2]Following a 99-day reign, they lost the championship to Dinsmore and Conway on May 17.[2]In August, they reached the final of theRuss HaasMemorial Cup, but lost toNovaandRC Haas.They spent the remainder of the year and early 2003feudingwith one another, until reuniting in March to take onBradshawand Dinsmore.[3]

World Wrestling Entertainment[edit]

Debut (2003–2004)[edit]

In mid-2003, they were promoted to the main World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) roster, when Damaja was renamed Danny Basham, and the duo were billed as brothers despite having no actual real life biological relation[3]The Basham Brothers debuted on the May 29 episode ofSmackDown!,defeatingSpankyandRikishi.[3]The following week, they unsuccessfully challenged theWWE Tag Team ChampionsEddie GuerreroandTajiriin a non-title match.[4]In June, the Bashams debutedShaniquaas theirvalet,while Shaniqua was their valet on SmackDown! she proved that she was the mostdominantdivaon the SmackDown! roster by defeating every in ring diva on theSmackDown! brandwho went by the names ofDawn Marie,Nidia,andTorrie Wilsonother thanStephanie McMahonandSableof the SmackDown! roster during that time.[5]In October, they began feuding withThe APA(Bradshaw andRon Simmons), defeating them in three consecutive matches, including atNo Mercy.[6][7][8]

On the October 23 episode ofSmackDown!,The Basham Brothers defeatedLos Guerreros(Eddie andChavo Guerrero) to win the WWE Tag Team Championship.[9]They retained the title in a rematch atSurvivor Series,and successfully defended the championship in a four-way match against Los Guerreros, Rikishi andScotty 2 Hotty,andWorld's Greatest Tag Team(Charlie HaasandShelton Benjamin) in December.[10][11]On the February 5, 2004 episode ofSmackDown!,The Bashams lost the title to Rikishi and Scotty 2 Hotty.[12]AtNo Way Out,the Bashams and Shaniqua lost ahandicap matchto Rikishi and Scotty 2 Hotty, and Shaniqua was then released from her contract.[13]Over the next several months, The Basham Brothers unsuccessfully challenged for the WWE Tag Team Championship against teams including Rikishi and Scotty 2 Hotty,Dudley Boyz(Bubba RayandD-Von Dudley), Charlie Haas andRico,andBilly KidmanandPaul London.[3]

The Cabinet (2004–2005)[edit]

In November 2004, The Basham Brothers joinedJohn "Bradshaw" Layfield's faction, known asThe Cabinet,and became known as the Secretaries of Defense.[3][14]In January 2005, they won a four-way match to win the WWE Tag Team Championship, defeatingRey MysterioandRob Van Dam,Eddie Guerrero andBooker T,andMark JindrakandLuther Reigns.[15]A month later, at theNo Way Outpay-per-view, they lost the titles to Rey Mysterio and Eddie Guerrero, and failed to regain the championship in a rematch onSmackDown!on February 24.[16][17]In June, they quit The Cabinet.[18]

Danny would wrestle in house shows and dark matches for the Raw brand. Doug went on a singles career going on to appear onWWE Velocity.

Paul Heyman's enforcers (2006–2007)[edit]

The Basham Brothers reunited inECW brandduring July 2006 at several house shows before becoming on-screen unnamed masked"Security Enforcers"for ECW leaderPaul Heyman.However, when Danny was injured with a torn biceps, he was later replaced by Derek Neikirk, who continued Danny's role as the second masked enforcer.[19][20][3]On January 18, 2007, both were released by WWE.[21]

Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (2007)[edit]

The two debuted inTotal Nonstop Action Wrestlingon the May 10, 2007, episode ofImpact!;known as "Basham" (Doug) and "Damaja" (Danny) attacked theVoodoo Kin Mafiaon behalf ofChristy Hemme.[22]AtSacrifice,they attackedB.G. Jamesprior to their tag team match, turning it into a handicap match; they went on to defeatKip James.[23]On May 24, onImpact!,Basham and Damaja defeated Kip James andLance Hoyt(who was replacing B.G. James).[24]AtSlammiversary,Basham and Damaja lost to B.G. and Kip James, but afterward were joined by Hoyt, who turned on the Voodoo Kin Mafia.[25]AtVictory Road,Basham and Damaja were defeated by Voodoo Kin Mafia, and they then left the company.[26]

IWA Mid-South and Juggalo Championship Wrestling (2007–2008)[edit]

They would participate in the Chris Candido Cup 2007 tournament inIWA Mid-SouthdefeatingSilas Youngand Dysfunction on May 25, andAxl RottenandMickie Knuckleson May 26 before losing toThomaselli Brothersin the semi-finals that same night.

That same year they appeared inJuggalo Championship Wrestlinglosing in an eight-team elimination match for the JCW Tag Team Titles toNecro ButcherandMad Man Pondoon August 11. Their last match together was on April 26, 2008 as they defeated Adam Rich and Shorty Biggs at JCW Slam TV Tour in Sauget, Illinois.

Later that year Danny retired from professional wrestling. Doug continued to wrestle in England and Ireland until retiring from wrestling in 2009.
