Bea Rose Monterde Santiago(Tagalog pronunciation:[sɐnˈtjɐgɔ];born February 17, 1990)[1]is a Filipino actress, model and beauty queen who was crownedMiss International 2013on December 17, 2013.[2] Prior to her win atBinibining Pilipinas,she was aMutya ng Pilipinas 2011titleholder who represented the Filipino community in Canada.[3] She was a fashion model forElite Model Managementbefore joiningBinibining Pilipinas 2013.

Early life[edit]

Bea Rose Monterde Santiago was born inMuntinlupa,moved toCataingan, Masbateand was raised by her grandparents. She went toMasbate Cityand studied High School in Liceo de Masbate.[4] She is the eldest of three children. At 15, she and her family moved toCanadawhere she studiedCommunicationsatYork Universityand became a model underElite Model Management.[1][5]

Mutya ng Pilipinas 2011[edit]

Santiago participated in the2011edition ofMutya ng Pilipinas,where she won the Mutya ng Pilipinas Overseas Communities title.[3][6]

Miss Tourism Queen of the Year International 2012[edit]

Santiago represented the Philippines in Miss Tourism Queen of the Year International 2012, where she placed in the Top 10.[5]

Binibining Pilipinas 2013[edit]

Santiago representedMasbateinBinibining Pilipinas 2013and was crownedBinibining Pilipinas International 2013alongside the Binibining Avon special award. She was crowned byBinibining Pilipinas International 2012,Nicole Schmitz.She was declared as one of the winners along withMiss Universe Philippines 2013,Ariella Arida;Binibining Pilipinas Tourism 2013,Joanna Cindy Miranda;Binibining Pilipinas Supranational 2013,Mutya Johanna Datul;and Binibining Pilipinas 2013 1st Runner-upPia Wurtzbach.[7]

Miss International 2013[edit]

She represented the Philippines inMiss International 2013held inTokyo,Japanin December 2013. She won beating 66 other contestants and became the fifthFilipinoto win the title afterGemma Cruzin1964,Aurora Pijuanin1970,Melanie Marquezin1979andLara Quigamanin2005.[8][9]In aninterviewafter winning, she dedicated her crown to the victims ofTyphoon Haiyan.[10][11]

During her reign as Miss International 2013, Bea traveled toJapanandMyanmarfor charity work with the International Cultural Association.

Personal life[edit]

In August 2018, Santiago revealed she was diagnosed withchronic kidney diseaseafter experiencing "severalmigraines".She believes that her diagnosis was a result of her intense" gym life ".[12]In December, Santiago revealed that she had experiencedkidney failureand begandialysisat theToronto General Hospitalin Canada. She was also in need of atransplantation.[13]In April 2022, it was revealed that she has received a kidney transplant through her brother.[14]
