Bernam River
TheBernam River(Malay:Sungai Bernam,Jawi:سوڠاي برنم) is ariverlocated between theMalaysianstatesofPerakandSelangor,demarcating the border of the two states. The river also separates the respective districts ofMuallimandBagan Datukon the north andHulu SelangorandSabak Bernamin the south.
Course
[edit]The Bernam River flows fromMount Liang Timur(Mount Liang East) in the east on theTitiwangsa Mountainsto theStraits of Malaccain the west.[1]
The eastern part of the river is suitable forpalm oilandrubber treeplantation, whileswampsfill the western areas. A percentage of the swampy areas have been reclaimed and dried up by a drainage system. Some the reclaimed area has been converted intopaddy fields.
Historical importance
[edit]Archeologistshave discovered several archaeological sites along the river, where ancientartifactswere found. Excavation works had been carried out by experts from various local universities andMuzium Sultan Alam Shah.
