Inenzymology,abeta-ureidopropionase(EC3.5.1.6) is anenzymethatcatalyzesthechemical reaction

N-carbamoyl-beta-alanine + H2Obeta-alanine + CO2+ NH3

Thus, the twosubstratesof this enzyme areN-carbamoyl-beta-alanineandH2O,whereas its 3productsarebeta-alanine,CO2,andNH3.

This enzyme belongs to the family ofhydrolases, those acting on carbon-nitrogen bonds other than peptide bonds, specifically in linear amides. Thesystematic nameof this enzyme class isN-carbamoyl-beta-alanine amidohydrolase. This enzyme participates in 3metabolic pathways:pyrimidine metabolism,beta-alanine metabolism, andpantothenateandcoenzyme Abiosynthesis.
