William H. Press(born April 8, 1940)[1]is an Americantalk radiohost, podcaster,liberalpunditand author.[2]He was chairman of theCalifornia Democratic Partyfrom 1993 to 1996, and is a senior political contributor onCNN.[3]He hostsThe Bill Press Podpodcast, and his weekly column is syndicated byTribune Content Agency.[4][5]

Born inWilmington, Delaware,and raised inDelaware City, Delaware,[1][6]Press was educated atSalesianum School,a privateRoman Catholicsecondary school in Wilmington, in 1958,[7]followed byNiagara Universityfrom which he gained aBachelor of Artsdegree in Philosophy, and theUniversity of Fribourgin which he gained aBachelor of Sacred Theologydegree.[8]

Press is a longtime resident ofInverness, California,having moved there in 1970.[9][10]He resides in Washington, D.C.[11]

Press started his broadcasting career in Los Angeles for TV stationsKABC-TVandKCOP-TV.He has worked as a political commentator forCNNandMSNBC.He is best known for co-hosting CNN'sSpin RoomoppositeTucker Carlson,andCrossfireand MSNBC'sBuchanan and Press.

Since May 2005, Press has been a contributing blogger atThe Huffington Post.He also contributes blogs toThe Hill.In January 2012, Press filled in forKeith OlbermannonCurrent TV's coverage of the2012 Florida Republican primary.[12]

In politics

Press was the chairman of theCalifornia Democratic Partyfrom 1993 to 1996.[13][14]

He previously served in different appointed positions such as achief of stafftoRepublicanCalifornia State SenatorPeter Behr(1971–73), and as director of the California Office of Planning and Research underDemocraticGovernorJerry Brown(1975–79).

Press was an early backer ofBernie Sandersfor president in 2016, hosting Sanders and his advisors for strategy sessions at his home before the campaign began.[15]

Radio talk show

Since September 2005, Press has been hosting a daily liberal talk radio program,The Bill Press Show.It is heard on satellite radio, streamed live from the show's website, and available from the show's YouTube channel.

It was formerly broadcast on terrestrial radio affiliates in the United States live from 6-9 AM ET. Originally syndicated byJones Radio,the radio show was syndicated byDial Globaluntil 2017. On March 5, 2012, the show was announced to be simulcast onCurrent TValongsideThe Stephanie Miller Showas part of morning programming.[16]As a result of Current TV becomingAl Jazeera America,The Bill Press Showmoved toFree Speech TV,where it stayed until its move to The Young Turks Network in 2016. As part of the move to the Turks, terrestrial syndication of the program was dropped in January 2017 (except for WCPT-AM Chicago).[17]

Religion

Press was steeped in Catholicism from an early age. He was an altar boy and took vows ofobedience, poverty and chastity.He describes his young self as a "soldier in God's army".[18]
