Billy Gowers(born 10 June 1996) is a former professionalAustralian rules footballerwho played for theWestern Bulldogsin theAustralian Football League(AFL).

Early career

Having played football at his school,Xavier Collegeand Oakleigh Chargers, he was drafted by theCarlton Football Clubwith their first selection and fifth overall in the2015 rookie draft.[1]He spent two years on Carlton's list before he was delisted at the end of the 2016 season without playing a senior AFL match.[2]He spent the 2017 season playing withFootscrayin theVictorian Football League(VFL) before he was drafted by the Western Bulldogs with their first selection and ninth overall in the2018 rookie draft.

AFL Career

In his debut year, Gowers was the leading goal kicker for the Western Bulldogs by kicking 26 goals out of 20 games.[3]He made his debut in the eighty-two point loss toGreater Western SydneyatUNSW Canberra Ovalin the opening round of the 2018 season.[4]He is the son of1991 Hawthorn premiership player,Andrew Gowers.[5]Gowers was delisted by the Bulldogs at the conclusion of the2020 AFL seasonafter playing 33 games over his 3 seasons with the club.[6]

Later career

After playing 2 seasons with the Southport Sharks in the VFL, Billy returned toOld Xaveriansin the VAFA League for the 2023 season where his grandfatherTrevorand his fatherAndrewboth played.
