Bingumer Sandis a smallriver islandin theEmsoff theRheiderlandshore nearBinguminEast Frisia.It is part of theEmsauen zwischen Ledamündung und Oldersumnature reserve.Not far from the Bingumer Sand is theJann Berghaus Bridge.[1]
Function
[edit]The naturally formedislandis used today as a shelter for Bingum'smarina.In summer the island is used aspastureforcattle.To protect it from suddenstorm surgesa two-metre-high earth bank was made. Inwinterthe cattle are transported to the mainland byferry.Until c. 1970 highpylonsfor anoverhead line crossingas part of a medium tension network crossed the Ems on Bingumer Sand. Several brick foundations bear witness today.
