Blackawtonis a village andcivil parishin theSouth Hamsdistrict ofDevon,England. According to the 2001 census, it had a population of 647.Blackawtonis a major part of the West Dartelectoral ward.The ward's population at the2011 censuswas 1,946.[1]The village is about six miles west ofDartmouth.

The church is 15th-century, with aNormanbaptismal font and a well-preservedrood screen.

Blackawton has hosted an annualworm charmingcompetition since 1984.[2][3]

There is one pub in Blackawton, The George Inn. A second pub, The Normandy Arms, has since closed.[4]

The village runs its own village shop and post office, all run by volunteers.

In 2010 a study ofbumblebeebehaviour by pupils from Blackawton Primary School was accepted for publication in theRoyal Society'sBiology Lettersjournal.[5][6]
