Bohinjska Bela(pronounced[bɔˈxiːnskaˈbeːla],German:Wocheiner Vellach[2]) is a village in theMunicipality of Bledin theUpper Carniolaregion ofSlovenia.

Geography

Bohinjska Bela lies on the left bank of theSava Bohinjka River,southwest ofBled.The oldest part of the settlement, locally known asSpodnja vasorDolenja vas('lower village'), is believed to be over a thousand years old. The main part of the village is known asZgornja vasorGorenja vas('upper village'). The train and bus stations are in the smallest part of the village, known locally as Podklanec. TheBohinjska Bela Barracks(with theSlovenian Military Mountain SchoolandMultinational Centre of Excellence for Mountain Warfare) is located here.

Bohinjska Bela was attested in written sources asVelachin 1253 andVocheiner Velachin 1368, among other spellings.[3]

Saint Margaret's Church, dating from the 16th century, stands in the part of the settlement known asSpodnja vas.
