Bungku people(Bungku:To BungkuorTo Bunggu) are anethnic groupwho mostly resides in North Bungku, South Bungku, Central Bungku, and Menui Islands districts diMorowali Regency,inCentral Sulawesiprovince ofIndonesia.[1]This ethnic group is divided into several sub-groups, namely Lambatu, Epe, Ro'tua, Reta, and Wowoni.[2]Bungku people have their own language, calledBungku language,which is one of their characteristic and serves as a means of communication between themselves.[3]They generally embraceIslamorChristianity.[4]
Bungku people used to have their own small kingdom, called Bungku Kingdom, which was also calledTambukuorTombukuKingdomin Dutch report.[5]The kingdom, along with other small kingdom in the eastern shore of Central Sulawesi, fell under theDutch Colonial Empiresince the middle of 19th century.[6]
