CDH6
Appearance
Cadherin-6is aproteinthat in humans is encoded by theCDH6gene.[5][6][7]
This gene encodes a type II classicalcadherinfrom the cadherin superfamily. The encodedmembrane proteinis a calcium dependentcell–cell adhesionglycoproteincomposed of fiveextracellularcadherin repeats, atransmembraneregion and a highly conservedcytoplasmictail. Cadherins mediate cell–cell binding in a homophilic manner, contributing to the sorting of heterogeneous cell types and the maintenance of orderly structures such asepithelium.Strong transcriptional expression of this gene has been observed in hepatocellular and renal carcinoma cell lines, suggesting a possible role inmetastasisand invasion.[7]
