CHIN-FM(100.7MHz) is acommercialradio stationinToronto,Ontario,Canada.It broadcasts aMultilingualradio formatand is owned byCHIN Radio/TV International.It is co-owned withCHIN1540 AMand CHIN-1-FM at 91.9 MHz. All three stations have separate ethnic programme schedules. Thestudiosand offices are onCollege Streetin thePalmerston-Little Italyneighbourhood of Toronto.
CHIN-FM has aneffective radiated power(ERP) of 8,500watts.Thetransmitteris atop theCN Tower.
Programming
[edit]CHIN-FM's weekday programming is primarily inPortuguese,Mandarin,Cantonese,andSouth Asianlanguages. On weekends,Kurdish,Serbian,SlovenianandCaribbeanprogramming is also heard.[3]
History
[edit]CHIN-FM firstsigned onin 1967 .The previous year, CHIN 1540 began broadcasting ethnic programming, one of the first multilingual stations in Canada. Its owners were granted aconstruction permitto add an FM station in Toronto with separate ethnic programming.
CHIN-AM-FM were started by Toronto broadcasterJohnny Lombardiand his then-partnerJames Ditson Service,a former mayor ofNorth York.[4][5]They saw a need for multilingual radio for Toronto's growing ethnic communities.
