Club Sportiv Municipal Flacăra Moreni,(Romanian pronunciation:[ˈflakəramoˈrenʲ]), commonly known asFlacăra Morenior simply asFlacăra,is a Romanianfootballclubbased inMoreni,Dâmbovița County.
The team was founded by English and Dutch engineers from the local oil rig asAstra-Română Moreniin 1922. During thecommunist period,Flacăra was taken over by theSecuritatewith the involvement of directorTudor Postelnicu,who had previously worked as an iron lathe operator in the city.
In the1988–89 season,the club finished fourth in thetop flightand earned a place in theUEFA Cup.Flacăra lost 1–4 toPortoon aggregate in thefirst round,and at the end ofthat campaignwas relegated as a result of thefall of communism.It has since only played in thelower leagues.
History
[edit]The club was founded in 1922 by English and Dutch engineers from the local oil rig ofAstra Română refineryunder the name of Astra Română Moreni to encourage the workers and employees to practice sports. In 1950 changed its name to Partizanul Moreni as in 1951 to Flacăra Moreni.[1]
After a merger with the local rival Automecanica Moreni in the year 1977 it was called Flacăra Automecanica Moreni, but in 1985 changed again to Flacăra Moreni.[1]
Flacăra Moreni mostly played in theDivizia Band theDivizia C,but in the year 1986 they were promoted toDivizia A.In the1988–89 seasonthey finished in 4th place. This meant qualification in thefollowing seasonfor theUEFA Cup,in which Flacăra Moreni in the first round was eliminated againstFC Porto4–1 on aggregate.[2]
In the1990–91 season,Flacăra were relegated from Divizia A. After the relegation from theDivizia Bin 1995 and fromDivizia Cin 2007 Flacăra played in theLiga IV.Flacăra were promoted to theLiga IIIfor the 2016–17 season.
