CYP12 family
Appearance
Cytochrome P450, family 12,also known asCYP12,is acytochrome P450familyfound ininsectgenomebelongs toMitochondrial clanCYPs,which is located in theinner membraneofmitochondria(IMM).[1][2]The first gene identified in this family is theCYP12A1from theMusca domestica(house fly), which is involved ininsecticide resistance.[3]CYP12A1 protein localization inmitochondriabyimmunohistochemistryand absolute dependence on mitochondrialelectron donorsadrenodoxin reductaseandadrenodoxin.[3]
RabbitgeneCYP8B1was named CYP12 at the beginning of its discovery, because it hydroxylated itssterolsubstrateon the 12 position.[4]However, CYP12 is a family of insect P450s found in mitochondria, so this gene was renamed to CYP8B1.[5]
