Caitlin Regal(néeRyan;born 9 February 1992) is a New Zealandcanoeist.On 3 August 2021 she won a gold medal alongsideLisa Carringtonin theK-2 500 metres event.[1]
Early life[edit]
Regal was born on 9 February 1992 inTakapuna,a suburb ofNorth Shore.[2][3]Aged 5, she joined theRed BeachSurf Life Saving & Squash Club on theHibiscus Coastnorth ofAuckland,where she later competed in surf competition. By age 14, she had qualified as a life guard.[4]She has won numerous titles at the New Zealand Surf Life Saving Championships.[4]
Canoeing[edit]
At the 2015 Canoe World Cup in Portugal, she won gold in the Women's K-4 500 metres event, and silver in the Women's K-2 500 metres event.[4]She represented New Zealand at the2016 Summer Olympicsfinishing fifth in theWomen's K-4 500 metresalongsideJaimee Lovett,Kayla ImrieandAimee Fisher.[5]
At the2020 Summer OlympicsinTokyo,she once again represented New Zealand. She competed in theWomen's K-1 500 metres,Women's K-2 500 metres,andWomen's K-4 500 metres.[6]

Caitlin Ryan married her partner, Nick Regal, in early 2021.[7]
