Background
[edit]Candelas released their first EPKim Y Syniadin 2011. Since being signed to the labelI Ka Chingin 2013 they have released two albums and three singles. Their first album featured songs in bothWelshandEnglishand their second album is entirely sung in Welsh. In February 2014, the band won threeY Selarawardsfor bestWelsh languagesong, best long record and best band.[1]They won best Welsh language band again in February 2015, also winning the best artwork prize.[2][3]Their albumBodoli'n Ddistawwas shortlisted for the 2015Welsh-language album of the year.[4][5]
In 2016 the band recorded a cover ofYr Anhrefn'sRhedeg i Paris(Running to Parisin English), described as the "anthem of the Summer",[6]to celebrate theWales football teamreaching theEuropean Football Championship.
The band have played at numerous music festivals across Wales such asFestival Number 6,[7]Maes B, andTafwylwhich they headlined in 2016 and again in 2017 afterBryn Fônpulled out.[citation needed]
In 2017, the band were reported to be recording their first English-language EP and a third album,[8]which was released in 2018 titledWyt Ti'n Meiddio Dod i Chwaraefollowing two singles.
The band's drummer, Lewis Williams, wonbest instrumentalistat the 2013 Y Selar awards[2]for his work in Candelas andSŵnami.
