TheCatholic Church in Barbadosis part of the worldwideCatholic Church,under the spiritual leadership of thePopeinRome.At first, Catholicism had difficulty establishing itself inBarbados,which early in its colonial history was primarilyProtestant,but with the abolition ofslaverythere in 1838, it began to take root. Currently, Catholics comprise about 4% of churchgoing Barbadians under theDiocese of Bridgetown.[1]
