Cetrimide,oralkyltrimethylammonium bromide,is anantisepticwhich is amixtureof threequaternary ammonium compounds:tetradonium bromide(TTAB or MITMAB),cetrimonium bromide(CTAB), andlaurtrimonium bromide(DTAB or LTAB).[1]It was first discovered and developed byICIand introduced under the brand nameCetavlon.[2]It is used as a 1-3 % solution for cleaning roadside accident wounds.[3]ICI also introducedSavlon,which was a combination of cetrimide andchlorhexidine.ICI later sold the Savlon brand OTC toJohnson & Johnsonin May 1992.[4]Cetrimide is used in various applications such as antiseptic agents, diagnostic test and analysis, topical formulations, and dental treatment.[5]
