Charles Wyplosz(born 5 September 1947) is a French economist.[1][2]He is an editor of the InternationalCentre for Economic Policy Research'sVoxEUand is currently the director of the International Centre for Monetary and Banking Studies (ICMB) and Professor of International Economics at theGraduate InstituteinGeneva,Switzerland. He was a founding managing editor ofEconomic Policy.[3]

Life[edit]

He earned engineering degree fromEcole Centrale Paris(1970), Certificat Supérieur d'Études fromInstitut Supérieur de Statistiques des Universités de Paris(1972), and PhD in economics fromHarvard University(1978).

From 1978 until 1996 he was assistant professor of economics and associate dean atINSEADand during the period 1986–1996 he was professor at theÉcole des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales.Since 1995 he is Professor of Economics at theGraduate Institute of International and Development Studiesin Geneva.

He has been editor ofEconomic Policysince 1984. He has served as advisor to various governments (Russia, Cyprus, France) as well as to numerous organisations such the IMF, the World Bank, the European Commission, the European Parliament, the Asian Development Bank. He served as Director of the International Macroeconomics Programme at theCentre for Economic Policy Research(CEPR).

His areas of research aremacroeconomics,exchange ratesand thelabor market.He has worked extensively on money especially theEuropean Monetary System,theEconomic and Monetary Union of the European Union,financial crisis,and capital mobility and economic transformation of former communist economies.

He has been awarded theLegion d'Honneurby thePresident of France.[4]
