Clement Sze-Kit Cheng(Chinese:Trịnh tư kiệt) is a Hong Kong-Canadianscreenwriter,film director,andvisual effects art director.

Early life

Born in Hong Kong, Cheng moved to Canada with his family as a child. In 1997, he returned to Hong Kong to witness thetransfer of its sovereigntyto China, and decided to stay.[1]

Film career

At the29th Hong Kong Film Awards,Cheng andDerek Kwokwon theHong Kong Film Award for Best Directorconjointly.[2]Despite never having personally practiced anymartial arts,[3]Cheng co-wrote and co-directedGallants,amartial arts film,with Kwok.[4]The actors Cheng and Kwok chose for the film were primarily people who had acted in 1970s and 1980s Hong Kong cinema.[5]The film had its Canadian premiere at the 2010Fantasia Festival,and Cheng was in attendance.[6]He also attended the film'sUnited Kingdompremiere at the 2011 Terracotta Far East Film Festival.[7]At the30th Hong Kong Film Awards,Gallantswas announced to have won theHong Kong Film Award for Best Film,at which point Cheng jumped from his seat and began hugging the film'scast members.[8]Cheng was in charge of thevisual effectsforcontemporary fantasyfilmRest on Your Shoulder[9]andcostume dramaThe Great Magician.[10]
