Corey Lavelle Brewer(born January 2, 1975) is an American former professionalbasketballplayer.
After graduating fromWest Memphis High School,Brewer attended and played basketball atNavarro Junior College(1994–1995) andCarl Albert State College(1995–1996) before transferring to theUniversity of Oklahoma,where he played two seasons for coachKelvin Sampson.[1][2]The 6 ft 2 in (1.88 m), 190 lb (86 kg) point guard was named to the Under-22 USA Basketball Team in July 1997.[3]
Brewer was selected by theMiami Heatwith the 51st overall pick in the1998 NBA draft,but spent the 1998–1999 season in theContinental Basketball Association,playing for theGrand Rapids Hoops.He was signed by the Heat on September 29, 1999, but was waived a month later without playing in any NBA games.
The 1999–2000 season found Brewer in theIBL'sNew Mexico Slam,after which he began playing for European teams such as Italian second division (Serie A2) teamsFila Biella(2000–2001), before moving toSpain'sACB,where he played forCB Sevilla(2001–2002) andCB Estudiantes(2002–2004). He then returned to Italy, playing forCaffè Maxim Bologna(2004–2005), moving on toGreece'sAris BC(2005–2006) andBelgium'sSpirou Charleroi.He spent the 2007–2008 season playing forKK ZadarinCroatia.During 2008–2009, Brewer played forASK Rigaand prior to the 2010–11 season, he signed withLleidaof theLEB OroLeague.
Personal life
[edit]At age fifteen, Brewer survived ashotgunwound after reportedly trying to mediate a street altercation.[4]
