Cosima Dannoritzer(bornMay 22,1965) is adocumentary filmmakerandfilm producer,whose documentaries focus onscience,technology,ecologyandhistory.She became known internationally as thescreenwriterandfilm directorof the multi-award-winningdocumentaryThe Light Bulb Conspiracy,which looks at the history and impact ofplanned obsolescence.

Cosima Dannoritzer studiedEnglish Literature,Film StudiesundTheatre Studiesat theUniversity of StrathclydeinGlasgow,Scotland,graduating with aBachelor of Artsin 1987. In 1989, she obtained the Higher National Diploma inFilm & TV Productionfrom the Bournemouth and Poole College of Art and Design inEngland.[1]

Career[edit]

As a freelance and multi-lingual screenwriter and filmmaker (she speaks English, German, French, Spanish and Catalan), Dannoritzer has directed forArte,theBBC,Channel 4,Radiotelevisión Españolaand Deutsche Welle TV.

In 1992, she directed a film about thereunificationof East and WestBerlinfor Channel 4'sEquinoxslot. In 2001, she directed a series about Germany for theBBC.

Since 2011, her documentaryThe Light Bulb Conspiracyaboutplanned obsolescencehas been broadcast in more than a dozen countries,[2]including onArte,[3]Phoenix[4]andRTVE.[5] The film was also screened as a Side Event during the Green Week of the European Commission in 2011.[6]

Her documentaryThe E-Waste Tragedywas screened in 2015 atInterpolinLyonduring CWIT, an international conference addressing the problem of illegal e-waste exports.[7]
