Craig Ver Steeg(born September 11, 1960) is anAmerican footballcoach who most recently was the running backs coach for theBaltimore Ravensof theNational Football League(NFL). He also served as an assistant coach at the college level forUtah,RutgersandHarvard.

Coaching career

USC

After a few years coaching at his former high school, Ver Steeg began his collegiate coaching career at hisalma mater,USC, as agraduate assistant.^[1]^[2]

Utah (first stint)

In1986,Ver Steeg joined the Utes’ staff as a graduate assistant,^[1]mostly working with quarterbacks. He continued to coach them his entire tenure with Utah. In1988he was given the additional title of recruiting coordinator.

Cincinnati

In1990Ver Steeg became a member of the Bearcats staff as the team’s wide receivers coach. In1991he added the title of recruiting coordinator. In1992he switched from coaching the wide receivers to the quarterbacks while retaining his role as the team’s recruiting coordinator.^[3]

Harvard

In1994and1995Ver Steeg worked as the Harvard Crimson's passing game coordinator, quarterbacks coach, wide receivers coach, and recruiting coordinator.^[3]

Chicago Bears

In1996Ver Steeg got his first taste coaching at theNFLlevel as he worked for the Chicago Bears, as an offensive assistant and quality control coach.^[4]

Illinois

From1997to2000,Ver Steeg worked as the quarterbacks coach and recruiting coordinator for the Illini.^[5]^[4]

Utah (second stint)

In2001Ver Steeg was finally given control over an offense, being made the Utes offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach^[6]^[7]a position he held until the end of the2002season.

Rutgers

In2003Ver Steeg joinedGreg Schiano’s staff^[8]at Rutgers^[9]as the offensive coordinator^[10]and quarterbacks coach a position he was in until2005.In2006he was made the team’s co-offensive coordinator and running backs coach. In2007he had the role of running backs coach coaching All-AmericanRay Rice.

Baltimore Ravens

In2008Ver Steeg returned to the NFL, joiningJohn Harbaugh’s Ravens staff as an offensive assistant.^[11]He previously coached with Harbaugh in Cincinnati.^[3]In2011he added the additional title of quarterbacks coach. In2012it was announced that he would be working as the team’s senior offensive assistant.^[1]Ver Steeg won his first Super Bowl title when the Ravens defeated the San Francisco 49ers inSuper Bowl XLVII.^[12]In2019he added to the senior offensive role as it was announced he would also be working with running backs. In2021,Ver Steeg was named the Ravens’ running backs coach.^[13]^[14]He was let go from Ravens after the 2022 season.

Personal life

Ver Steeg and his wife, Lisa, have a son.
