Creed Humphrey(born June 28, 1999) is an American professionalfootballcenterfor theKansas City Chiefsof theNational Football League(NFL). He playedcollege footballfor theOklahoma Sooners,where he was named theBig 12 Conference's offensive lineman of the year in 2019 and 2020. He was selected by the Chiefs in the second round of the2021 NFL draft.
Early life
[edit]Humphrey attended theShawnee High SchoolinShawnee, Oklahoma.[1]He played both center anddefensive lineon the football team. Humphrey played in the 2017U.S. Army All-American Game.[2]Humphrey was a highly-touted prospect, with a four-star rating from247Sports.He was ranked 294th overall in his recruiting class, but was the 5th-best prospect from the State of Oklahoma and the 3rd-best center in the country.[3]
Humphrey received nineteen scholarship offers from programs likeAlabama,Texas A&M,Texas,Oklahoma State,Oklahoma,Vanderbilt,andVirginia Tech.He initially committed to Texas A&M in June 2016 but decommitted two months later and signed aNational Letter of Intentwith Oklahoma.[4]He is IndigenousPotawatomi,and is a member of theCitizen Potawatomi Nation.[5]
College career
[edit]Humphrey redshirted his first year at Oklahoma in 2017.[6]He played in all 14 games with 12 starts in 2018.[7][8][9]He returned as the starting center for Oklahoma in 2019 and 2020, being named theBig 12 Conference's offensive lineman of the year in both seasons.[10][11]Following the 2020 season Humphrey announced he would be forgoing his final year of eligibility and declared for the2021 NFL draft.[12]

Humphrey was selected by theKansas City Chiefsin the second round (63rd overall) of the 2021 NFL draft.[15]On May 13, 2021, he signed his rookie contract with the Chiefs.[16]He made his first career start in the Chiefs week 1 game against theCleveland Browns.On November 3, 2021, the midway point of the 2021 season,Pro Football Focusnamed Humphrey to their mid-season All-Rookie[17]andAll-Proteams.[18]He was named to thePFWAAll-Rookie team.[19]In the 2022 season, Humphrey started in all 17 regular seasong games.[20]He helped the Chiefs winSuper Bowl LVIIagainst thePhiladelphia Eagles38–35, by anchoring the offensive line that allowed no sacks during the game.[21]
In the 2023 season, Humphrey helped the Chiefs winSuper Bowl LVIIIagainst theSan Francisco 49ers25–22 being the first team since the Patriots in2003and2004to repeat asSuper Bowl champions.[22]
On August 22, 2024, Humphrey signed a four-year contract extension worth $72 million, $50 million of which was guaranteed. This new deal made him the highest-paid center in the NFL.[23]In 2024, Humphrey helped the Chiefs reachSuper Bowl LIXbut lost 40-22 to the Eagles.
