Cytisusis agenusofflowering plantsin thefamilyFabaceae,nativeto open sites (typicallyscrubandheathland) in Europe, western Asia and North Africa. It belongs to thesubfamilyFaboideae, and is one of several genera in the tribeGenisteaewhich are commonly calledbrooms.They are shrubs producing masses of brightly coloured, pea-like flowers, often highly fragrant.[2]Members of the segregate generaCalicotome,Chamaecytisus,andLembotropisare sometimes included inCytisus.[3]
