Daniel Bernard Sweeney(born November 14, 1961) is an American actor, known for his roles as Jackie Willow inFrancis Ford Coppola'sGardens of Stone(1987), Lt. Phil Lowenthal inMemphis Belle(1990), and Travis Walton inFire in the Sky(1993). He also starred in films such asThe Cutting Edge(1992),Shoeless Joe JacksoninEight Men Out(1988),Dinosaur(2000), andBrother Bear(2003).
He has guest-starred on various television series, includingHouse(2006),Jericho(2006–2008),Castle(2011). He played FBI Special Agent Morris onThe Closer,Major Crimes.He also had recurring roles such asCriminal Minds(2009),Crash(2008),[1]The Event(2010).

[edit]Sweeney was born inShoreham, New York,on November 14, 1961. He attended bothTulaneandNew York University.[2]
Career
[edit]In 1990, Sweeney starred as Treplev in Jeff Cohen's contemporary adaptation ofAnton Chekhov's classicThe Seagullat a small Off-Broadway theater (the RAPP Arts Center) in New York's Alphabet City neighborhood. His co-star was a then unknownLaura Linney,making her New York stage debut as Nina. TheNew York Timescalled Sweeney's performance "bold and exciting".[3]
Sweeney guest-starred in the television seriesThe Edge of NightandSpenser: For Hire.In films, he has played Jackie Willow, a Vietnam-era soldier, inFrancis Ford Coppola'sGardens of Stone(1987), navigator 1st Lt. Phil Lowenthal inMemphis Belle(1990), and Travis Walton inFire in the Sky(1993). He also played former ice hockey player Doug Dorsey inThe Cutting Edge(1992),Shoeless Joe JacksoninEight Men Out(1988), and Dish Boggett inLonesome Dove(1989).[citation needed]
He was a regular cast member onC-16from 1997 to 1998.[4]
After voicing Aladar theIguanodonin the 2000Disneyanimated filmDinosaur,Sweeney played Michael Whitman inLife as We Know It.He later returned to Disney to play Kenai's older brother Sitka in Disney'sBrother Bear.
Sweeney has guest-starred on various television series, includingHouse(2006) as Crandall, an ex-bandmate of Dr.Gregory House;Jerichoas John Goetz, employee of aprivate military contractor(2006–2008);Castleas a Los Angeles detective (2011), and more. He played FBI Special Agent Morris onThe CloserandMajor Crimes.He also had recurring roles as U.S. Marshal Sam Kassmeyer, assigned to protect Haley and Jack Hotchner onCriminal Minds(2009); as Peter Emory in season 1 ofCrash(2008);[1]and as Carter inThe Event(2010).
He is currently thevoice-overartist for theOWN: Oprah Winfrey Network,and his large body of voiceover work includes three seasons ofFox Sports Net'sBeyond the GloryandNational Geographic Television'sIce Pilots.Past ad campaigns include Bud Light, Lincoln cars, Conoco-Phillips, John Deere, Major League Baseball, and Coca-Cola.
Sweeney plays Captain John Trent in the horror web seriesUniversal Dead.[5]In late June 2010, it was announced thatUniversal Deadwill be made into a feature film.[6]As of 2023, the film has not appeared.
In 2012, Sweeney voiced the adultAvatar Aanginthe firstandsecond seasonsofThe Legend of Korra,the sequel series ofAvatar: The Last Airbender.He currently narrates the reality television seriesMountain Men.[7]
In 2017, Sweeney plays a pastor inThe Resurrection of Gavin Stone.[8]
Personal life
[edit]In April 2000, Sweeney married Ashley Vachon; they have a son, Cade, and a daughter, Cody.[9]
