D56runs parallel to a segment ofA1 motorwaybetweenZadarandSplitareas. Furthermore the road has junctions to major state roads, namelyD27inBenkovac,connecting toD1 state roadinGračac,serving as a possible bypass of both Maslenica bridges,D424,D59andD33state roads. The road also connects toA1 motorwaySkradin and Zadar 2 interchanges viaD424and a short connector road, respectively.[1]The road is 122.5 km (76.1 mi) long.[2]
The D56 road also serves as a connection toKrka National Park.
The road, as well as all other state roads in Croatia, is managed and maintained byHrvatske ceste,a state-owned company.[3]
Traffic volume
[edit]Traffic is regularly counted and reported byHrvatske ceste, operator of the road.[4]Substantial variations between annual (AADT) and summer (ASDT) traffic volumes are attributed to the fact that the road serves as a connection toA1 motorwayand it carries substantial tourist traffic.
