TheDaily Jang(Urdu:روزنامہ جنگ) is anUrdulanguagenewspaperheadquartered inKarachi,Pakistan.

History[edit]

It is the oldest newspaper of Pakistan in continuous publication since its foundation in 1939, first published duringWorld War II,hence the name (Jang) translating to "war" in Urdu.[2]After theindependence of Pakistanin 1947, then youngMir Khalil-ur-Rahmanbecame one of the pioneering publishers inKarachi,Pakistan.[2]Its current group chief executive and editor-in-chief isMir Shakil-ur-Rahman.Past editors and contributors have includedMahmood Shaam,Nazir NajiandShafi Aqeel.[3]

Newspaper's publisher[edit]

Jangis published by theJang Group of Newspapers.It was originally published as a weekly to raise political awareness among Muslims living in British India.[2]The group's flagshipDaily Jangis Pakistan's most prominent Urdu daily newspaper.[citation needed]The group also owns the Pakistani TV channelGeo News,arguably the most popular TV news channel in Pakistan.

It is published fromKarachi,Lahore,Rawalpindi,Quetta,MultanandLondon.[2]
