Dauvit Broun

Dauvit Broun(English:David Brown) (born 1961) is a Scottish historian and academic. He is the chair of Scottish history at theUniversity of Glasgow.A specialist inmedieval ScottishandCeltic studies,he concentrates primarily onearly medieval Scotland,and has written abundantly on the topic of early Scottishking-lists,as well as onliteracy,charter-writing,national identity,and on the text known asde Situ Albanie.

He is editor of theNew Edinburgh History of Scotlandseries, the pre-1603 editor of theScottish Historical Review,convener of theScottish History Society,and the Principal Investigator of theArts and Humanities Research Council-funded project 'The Paradox of Medieval Scotland, 1093–1286'.

Dauvit was elected a Fellow of theRoyal Society of Edinburghin 2013.[1]In July 2017, Broun was elected aFellow of the British Academy(FBA), the United Kingdom'snational academyfor the humanities and social sciences.[2]In 2013 he delivered the British Academy's SirJohn RhysMemorial Lecture.[3]
