David QuarreyCMG[1](born 1966) is a British diplomat and theBritish Ambassador to NATOsince 2022. He was formerly actingNational Security Adviser,having taken over the role whileDavid Frostcontinued as the United Kingdom's Chief Negotiator to theEuropean Unionduring theBrexitnegotiations.[2][3]He was the UK'sAmbassador to Israelfrom 2015 to 2019.[4]

Career[edit]

Quarrey, who joined theForeign and Commonwealth Officein 1994,[5][6]previously directed its Near East and North Africa Department. He has also served as a British diplomat inHarare,inDelhiand at theUnited Nationsin New York. WhenTony BlairwasBritish prime minister,he was his private secretary for two years.[7]

Quarrey's term as Ambassador to Israel ended in June 2019. He was replaced byNeil Wigan.[8]

Quarrey was previously Prime MinisterBoris Johnson's International Affairs Adviser andDeputy National Security Adviser.[9]In April 2022 he was appointed as theBritish Ambassador to NATO.[10][11]

Personal life[edit]

Quarrey was Britain's first openly homosexual Ambassador to Israel.[7]His husband is Aldo Oliver Henriquez.[12]

In 2021, he tested positive for theIndian variantofCOVID-19after returning from a government business trip to India.[9]
