TheDaya Riverstarts as a branch of theKuakhai Riverat Saradeipur (near Badahati) inOdishastate inIndia.It is joined by theMalaguni RiverbelowGolabaiand flows throughKhordhaandPuridistricts before emptying into the north-eastern corner ofChilika Lake,37 kilometres (23 mi) from its origin.[1]
The historically importantDhaulihills are located on the banks of the Daya River, 8 kilometres (5 mi) south ofBhubaneswar.It is a hill with vast open space adjoining it, and has majoredicts of Ashokaengraved on a mass of rock, by the side of the road leading to the summit of the hill. Dhauli hill is presumed to be the area whereKalinga Warwas fought.[2]
