Dean Parata(born 4 October 1991) is anItalyinternationalrugby leaguefootballer who plays as ahookerfor theLondon Broncosin theBetfred Super League.

Parata has previously played for theBarrow Raiders,Toulouse OlympiqueandFeatherstone Roversin theChampionship.

Early life

OfItaliandescent, Parata attendedKeebra Park State High Schooland played his junior rugby league for theNerang Roostersin theGold Coast, Queensland.After being signed by theWests Tigers,he moved to Sydney and attendedHoly Cross College, Ryde.

Playing career

Parata played 25 games for the Tigers in theNational Youth Competitionbetween 2009 and 2011.[5]At the time of his selection for the2013 World Cup,Parata was playing for theParramatta Eels' feeder team, theWentworthville Magpiesin theNew South Wales Cup.[6]He later joined theBlacktown Workers Sea Eaglesin the same competition..[7]

In the 2018 season, he signed for theBarrow Raidersin theBetfred Championshipwhere he made 30 appearances for the club.[8][9]In October 2018, Parata signed withToulouse Olympiquefor the 2019 season.[10]In October 2019, Parata joinedFeatherstone Roverson a two-year contract,[9]but with the suspension of the2020 seasondue to theCOVID-19 pandemiche returned to Australia.[11]In the 2021 season, Featherstone reached the play-off final, but lost to Toulouse and missed out on promotion. The final was Parata's last game for Featherstone and in October 2021 he signed forLondon Broncos[12]where he was appointed as vice-captain.[13]

In the 2023 season, London earned promotion to theSuper Leaguewith a 18–14 win over Featherstone in the Championship final.[14]Parata was named (jointly withLachlan Walmsley) as the Championship Player of the Year at theRFLannual awards.[15]

International

Parata was selected to represent Italy at the2017 World Cup qualifying tournamentin 2016.[7]Parata was named as a shadow player forItalyat the2017 World Cup.[16]

He was selected to represent Italy at the 2022 postponed2021 Rugby League World Cup.[17]He started at hooker againstScotlandand scored a try in the 28–4 win.[18]
