Demetria Dyan McKinney(born August 27, 1979[1]) is an American actress, model, and singer. From 2006 to 2012, during its original run, she starred in the TBS sitcomTyler Perry's House of Payne,a BET revival of the show was announced in 2020. Her other series regular roles include TV One sitcomThe Rickey Smiley Show,Bounce TV prime time soap operaSaints & SinnersandSyfyhorror dramaSuperstition,as well asMotherland: Fort SalemonFreeform.
Her stage credits include playingCoretta Scott Kingin the Rhythm and Blues OperaI Dream(2010), and starring as Deena Jones in a 2012 production ofDreamgirlsatThe Muny.[2]In 2017, McKinney playedWhitney Houstonin theTV OnefilmBobbi Kristina.She released her debut albumOfficially Yoursin 2017.

[edit]McKinney has performed in a number ofTyler Perry's stage plays, includingMeet The Browns,Why Did I Get MarriedandMadea's Family Christmas.She starred as Janine Shelton-Payne on the TBS comedy seriesTyler Perry's House of Paynefrom 2006 to 2012. She was nominated for a 2009 National Association for Multi-ethnicity in Communications (NAMIC) Vision Award for Best Performance in a Comedy, in recognition of her work onHouse of Payne.[3]She returned for theHouse of Paynespin-offThe Paynesin 2018.[4]McKinney has guest starred onNecessary Roughness,Drop Dead Diva,Devious Maids,Chicago Med,andBeing Mary Jane.She also appeared onBravo'sThe Real Housewives of Atlanta,as a recurring cast member during the seventh season, and a guest star on the eighth season.
From 2012 to 2014, McKinney had a series regular role on the TV One comedy series,The Rickey Smiley Show.In 2016, she was cast as Tamara Austin in theBounce TVprime time television soap operaSaints & Sinners.In 2017, she was cast oppositeMario Van PeeblesandRobinne Leein the Syfy horror dramaSuperstition.[5]The series was canceled after one season. In 2010, she performed in the Rhythm and Blues operaI Dream.She appeared inDreamgirlsand performed withJennifer Hollidayin 2012, and lent vocals to R&B singerAnthony David's albumLove Out Loud.[12]In 2015, her single "Trade It All" charted onBillboard'sAdult R&B Songs.[12]
In 2017, McKinney released her debut albumOfficially Yours.[13]She received a nomination for theNAACP Image Award for Outstanding New Artist.[14]From this album, she released three singles: "Is This Love", "Happy" and "Easy" which peaked at #4 on theAdult R&B Songschart.[15]
Personal life
[edit]McKinney faced homelessness at the age of 17 and has one child.[16]
She was in a decade long on-off relationship with TV producer Roger Bobb. McKinney called off their engagement in 2016, then later on announced she was dating music producer Eric Philips.[17]
