Dennis Allen Patera(born October 17, 1945) is a formerAmerican footballplacekickerwho played one season with theSan Francisco 49ersof theNational Football League(NFL). He was drafted by the 49ers in the seventeenth round of the1968 NFL/AFL draft.He first enrolled atColumbia Basin Collegebefore transferring toBrigham Young University.Patera attendedCleveland High SchoolinPortland, Oregon.[1]

Early years

Patera was a two-yearlettermanin football and a three-year letterman intrack and fieldat Cleveland High School. He earned All-PILHonorable Mention honors in football. He was also the PILDiscusChampion and State Meet Discus Champion in track.[2]Patera was inducted into the PIL Hall of Fame in 2011.[3]

College career

Patera initially attendedColumbia Basin College.[1]He transferred toBrigham Young Universityand was a letterman in football and track for theBYU Cougars.He set school records in football for most points scored and longestfield goalwith a 53 yarder. Patera was also 2nd place inWACDiscus in track.[2]

Professional career

Patera was selected by theSan Francisco 49ersof the NFL with the 449th pick in the1968 NFL/AFL draft.He played in five games for the team during the1968 season.[1]

Personal life

Patera is the brother of professional wrestlerKen Pateraand American football player and coachJack Patera.[4][5]
