Desmethylcitalopramis anactive metaboliteof theantidepressant drugs citalopram(racemic) andescitalopram(theS-enantiomer,which would be calleddesmethylescitalopram).^[1]^[2]Like citalopram and escitalopram, desmethylcitalopram functions as aselective serotonin reuptake inhibitor(SSRI), and is responsible for some of its parents'therapeutic benefits.
