Donald Armin Blomeis an American diplomat serving as theUnited States ambassador to Pakistansince 2022. He also served as theUnited States ambassador to Tunisiafrom 2019 to 2022.[1]

Early life and education[edit]

Blome received aBachelor of Artsand aJuris Doctorfrom theUniversity of Michigan.

Career[edit]

Prior to joining the government, Blome worked as an attorney inChicago,Illinois.

Blome is a career member of theSenior Foreign Service,with the rank ofMinister-Counselor;he has served since 1993. He previously served as theU.S. Ambassador to Tunisia.Prior to that, he served as Chargé d’Affaires a.i. at the Libya External Office inTunis, Tunisia.He also served as Consul General at the U.S. Consulate inJerusalem,and Director, Office of Arabian Peninsula Affairs at theU.S. Department of State.Blome served as Political Counselor, EmbassyKabul, Afghanistanand as Minister-Counselor for Economic and Political Affairs at the U.S. Embassy inCairo, Egypt.Before this, Blome served as the Civilian Co-Director, Multinational Force Strategic Engagement Cell,Baghdad,Political Counselor, EmbassyKuwait,and as Israel Desk Officer, Deputy Director and Acting Director, Office of Israel and Palestinian Affairs.[2]

United States Ambassador to Tunisia[edit]

In August 2018, PresidentDonald Trumpnominated Blome to serve as U.S. Ambassador toTunisia.[3]His nomination was confirmed in theUnited States Senatebyvoice voteon January 2, 2019.[4]He was sworn into office on January 9, 2019.[5]He presented his credentials to PresidentBeji Caid Essebsion February 7, 2019.[6]

United States Ambassador to Pakistan[edit]

On October 19, 2021, PresidentJoe Bidennominated Blome to be the next United States Ambassador to Pakistan and different parts of the world..[2]TheSenate Foreign Relations Committeeheld hearings on Blome's nomination on December 14, 2021. The committee favorably reported his nomination to the Senate floor on January 12, 2022. The Senate confirmed Blome's nomination on March 1, 2022 byvoice vote.[7]He was sworn into office on April 11, 2022, and he arrived in the country on May 23, 2022.[8][9]He presented his credentials on July 1, 2022.[10]
